Manchester has its own frequency, heavy on bass, sharp on lyric, and always two steps ahead. Sl8r and Fox ride that current better than most. On The Skull & Crosses EP, they lock in for four stripped-back, system-ready cuts for V Recordings that tap into the raw spirit of UK D&B culture.
Sl8r — Birmingham-born, now a fixture in Manchester's scene, has built a reputation for versatility and depth. With releases on V Recordings, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, and 31 Recordings, his productions have garnered support from heavyweights like Goldie, Bryan Gee, Doc Scott, and Lenzman. His DJ sets have ignited dancefloors across the UK and beyond, from Fabric in London to Studio 338 .
Fox, meanwhile, is a cornerstone of Manchester's musical landscape. Jamaican-born and Manchester-raised, his journey spans decades and genres. A key member of collectives like LEVELZ and Swing Ting, Fox has collaborated with luminaries such as Dub Phizix, Calibre, and the late, great Marcus Intalex. His distinctive voice and lyrical prowess have become synonymous with quality and authenticity .
Their previous collaboration on Lenzman's The North Quarter label in 2024 was a standout, and this EP takes things further. From rolling basslines to chopped amens, The Skull & Crosses EP is a masterclass in doing more with less.
This isn't about chasing trends or algorithms. It's about two artists, deeply rooted in their craft, delivering music that resonates. V Recordings continues to bridge generations — heritage sounds, future pressure.
